Artist Statement

Madeleine Durham is a painter of unique abstracts, landscapes, and floral mandalas. A native of New Mexico, she comes to painting by way of her work as an archival paper designer for fine bookbinders. Madeleine has developed a new painting process that has a tranquil quality and is strikingly unique. Her papers are in private and public collections around the world including the archival paper archives at the MET.

Madeleine Durham is a New Mexico native and comes from a family of artists, musicians, and philosophers. She combines her background in these fields to express her colorful and fluid style of abstraction. She has been artistically inclined her entire life. Her highly successful bead store, Beauty and the Beads, was internationally known. Following her creative vision she closed the business and returned to art school to earn her Masters with an emphasis in Book Arts. She teaches classes and workshops from her studio at home in Santa Fe.
