Artisan Materials Expo

2000 – 2018

The largest art & instructional event in the world.

The Artisan Materials Expo — created & sponsored by Artisan Santa Fe, with stores in Santa Fe & Albuquerque — began back in 1997. Peter Hopper from HK Holbein was sitting around having a few beers with Artisan co-founder Jack Young, and commented, “Everybody would love to come to Santa Fe if you guys had a national consumer show.” Jack looked at me and said, “Ron, that sounds like a good idea. Why don’t you explore it?”

That was it! Our first Artisan Materials Expo was held in 2000. Our last Expo in 2018 was the largest with 86 vendor booths of manufacturers and 120 art workshops as well as free manufacturer product demonstrations on stage in the vendor floor.

The Artisan Materials Expo allows participants to experience a wide variety of instructors in many mediums. We keep the classes inexpensive and all materials are included in the hands-on workshops. The manufacturers are selling at greatly reduced prices on the vendor floor, which allows participants to talk to the people making the stuff, and then try it at prices that make it affordable. Please join us!

While you’re in Santa Fe, make sure to take in the 256 Art Galleries, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, Folk Art Museum, Meow Wolf and other attractions that have made Santa Fe the third largest art market in the United States. Visit our stores in Albuquerque and Santa Fe while you’re in town, and here’s a link to where our stores are located. We’d love to give you the tour!
