Ron’s Palette

Pastels and Baseball?

Come join me at the 13th Biennial International Association of Pastel Societies Convention at the Hotel Albuquerque this June 6th, 7th and 8th for the largest selection and best prices on pastel products to be found. Details are in the newsletter…it is a rush.

Speaking of rushes, the Santa Fe Little League season is coming to an end …meaning the end of another coaching season for me with the Artisan Diamondbacks.  I always hesitate a bit to coach another year but always end up so glad that I did…what fun. I had a great group of 6 to 9 year olds, 6 boys and 6 girls and we had such a good time and even a winning season. It is great to see kids learn teamwork, run around the bases in the sun away from their screens and video games, and form new skills and friendships with their fellow players. I want to thank all the sponsors and volunteers that put their money and heart into Santa Fe Little League…you brought a lot of smiles to so many!

Namaste,

Ron

Artist of the Month

Stan Berning

Artist Statement

Being a painter, I was born in 1951 already an antique.  After a lifetime of creating images in this post modern world I have come to champion no ism’s. Taking to heart my eighty year old friend’s reminder that his generation made sure everything had been done, I have proceeded to do everything in each painting. The resulting fifteen oil paintings, though inevitably stamped with my distinctive aesthetic voice, travel freely through various fields of contemporary exploration.  Accepting that the act of working in paint will result in the echo of vaguely familiar imagery from past painters has released me from the tyrannical demand for newness and, ironically, opened the process to a multitude of possibilities embodied in each individual painting.  If it has all been done before there is no territory worth defending.  One either stands on shifting sands, or swims.

“Hello everyone – we have a few special workshops coming up this month that I want to take a moment and highlight.

Coming up over the long weekend we have a great workshop with artist Arin Dineen on June 14th, 15th and 16th. Several things to note – this sculpture class is made from mostly recycled materials, is a great opportunity for you to step completely out of your comfort zone and make something exciting and interesting to add to your collection. This class will be something far different than anything we have gotten to host yet and we are SO excited – $150 for all three days and you bring your own materials.

Then on Saturday, June 22nd, oil painter Karen Whitmore returns with a new painting class focused on chickens. You can decide if you want to paint a hen or a rooster and Karen will guide the way! $99 + tax for all materials and you can just bring yourself. This is a great class for beginners or anyone looking to pick up oils for the first time.

And later in the month we will be working with Melinda Tidwell on another collage class – more information available at our calendar.

To register for these and see forthcoming workshops, visit us at www.calendar.artisansantafe.com for more information.

Stuff Around The Store

Cool Item

Of The Month

Artisan carries a lot of unique and/or one of a kind items. Here is one you might find interesting.

New! Museo Aluminum Bars

Displays art as it is intended

From the moment you start exhibiting, a work of art is likely to undergo changes. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity may unintentionally affect your work causing wooden stretchers to twist, warp or bend, particularly in larger sizes. With Museo Alu-frame, these issues are a thing of the past.

Strength and stability

The Museo Alu-frame system is an aluminum solution that supports works of art. Aluminum is unaffected by differences in humidity and temperature thus eliminating potential twisting, bending and warping. In addition, the Museo Alu-frame canvas stretchers are highly resistant to both wear and environmental factors that will degrade wooden stretchers over time. Even under extreme conditions, your artwork remains tightly framed.
