30 Dec Painted Patinas
ONE-DAY Workshop. September 9, 10am-4:30pm, $150 @ Santa Fe store. ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED.
Become the alchemist and learn how to make anything look like aged metal. This exciting class is informative for all painters and mixed media artists. We will be using Holbein acrylic paints and mediums to create surfaces that look like rust, copper, aged metals and even concrete. The recipes and layers can be used on many different surfaces. We will work on panel, paper and metallic films. You will learn how to blend, glaze, create resists, build texture and emboss into metal tape. Enjoy the magic of putting bronze over molding paste. Clear crackle can look metallic when paint is added to it and when dry rub metallic crèmes into the crackles. I will have fun texture tools for embossing the metal. We will create a unique surface using Tyvek and heat to make “metal” papers. There will also be a transparent transfer that will allow the background to show through. All this in a day, WOW! The Best part is that all supplies are provided. We will work on Ampersand panels using Holbein acrylics I am loving their products!

Sandra Duran Wilson comes from a family of artists and scientists. She grew up in a world where everything was possible, where she would look through the microscope in her father’s office and then draw what she saw. Sandra’s early years were spent on the border of Mexico where the people, animals, landscape, drama of the religious rituals, and stories of the curanderas shaped her reality. Years later she would return many times to Mexico and South America to study the culture, traditions, and art. Her spirituality combined with her scientific studies has directed her work from realism to abstract mixed media. Her work is influenced by abstract scientific concepts and by the sheer fun of exploring what paint can do. Inspiration comes from quantum physics, biology, chemistry and astronomy. She experiments, paints, writes and teaches at her home in Santa Fe, NM and in the US, Europe and Australia. Visit her website: www.SandraDuranWilson.com
