The Magic of Bill Worrell!

When we opened Tina’s Ink Tattoo Salon for my daughter Kristina (tattoo artist), our motto was “Think before you Ink”. There is, and will be, only one tattoo on the center of my back, and that is of Bill Worrell’s “Shaman”. Bill has been a major influence in my life ever since I met him some 30 years ago back, when Artisan was on Canyon Road. He is the consummate creative spirit…he paints, writes, makes jewelry, makes bronze sculptures and is a prolific songwriter and singer. I had the honor to spend a couple days recently at his ranch in New Art, Texas, and he took me on an adventure to Seminole Canyon, where he has a monumental bronze shaman sculpture overlooking some of the pictographs and petroglyphs that inspired his art.

We put some pictures together of the trip to his place in Texas, and put them in a video to his song “Handing it Over”. Enjoy the magic of Bill Worrell. He’s our Artist of the Month for April.

Namaste,
Ron

About Bill

A warm and friendly outdoors man with a flair for humor and satire, Worrell is energized by the elements in life that surround him. He maintains two full-time studios, one in Santa Fe and one in Texas. His studio on the banks of the Llano river in New Art, Texas is a synthesis of New Mexico, Texas, and designs inspired by his life-long passion for archeology.

On Monday, April 15th, Annie O’Brien Gonzales will guide and develop your skills for creating colorful concepts within your mixed media paintings, $135, all materials included.

Friday, April 19th we are hosting another installment of our Holbein Duo Water-Mixable mini class – this is a great, low-commitment way to check out new media – bonus points for people who are looking for non-toxic oil painting and safer studio practices, just $10 buys you a seat and converts to store credit for use the same day.

Tuesday, April 23rd, Lee Rommel will teach a one-day watercolor journal class. Learn the best methods and tricks for painting small with limited materials to create big compositions – bring a photo reference and your own materials, for $125.

At the end of the month we are so excited to host back-to-back workshops with Karen Vernon. A renowned international artist – Vernon teachers all over the world. We are bringing her in for a two-day intensive in watercolor on Friday and Saturday, April 26th and 27th and then on Monday and Tuesday, April 29th and 30th – join us for her safer studio workshop using water-mixable oils. Each of these workshops provides all materials – and cost $250 + tax – and for those thinking to take both workshops – Artisan is offering a $25 in-store credit to help you cover any supplies you want to pick up after the workshops! What’s going on in Artist-Land.

Artisan regrets to report the passing of artist Carole Pigott, a long time friend and customer of Artisan.

Carol passed away January 9 at her home in Santa Fe after a long battle with cancer. Carole was always an artist and inspired mainly by France and the Mississippi Delta. When we closed our Canyon Road store, she organized a truck to take many of the art supplies that we weren’t bringing over to Cerrillos Road to help out the artists that had lost all their supplies in the Katrina Hurricane. She was known as a dog person who loved her animals and loved to paint…she is missed by all that knew her.
